Remember Clippy, the wonderful 90’s nostalgia-inducing paperclip assistant that used to pop up in Microsoft Office? Well, he’s back, but this time he’s smarter, faster, and more helpful than ever. Meet Copilot, Microsoft’s new AI tool that integrates ChatGPT technology into all its Microsoft 365 apps
Everyone is hyped-up about ChatGPT right now, myself included. I just can’t wait to get meaningful applications of the technology in my company. But because we are a government organization there are data-concerns and we are hesitant to do so.
Enter Microsoft 365 Copilot
Copilot lives within your Microsoft 365 subscription and is designed with data privacy and security in mind. Copilot does not store or share any of your data outside of your Microsoft 365 account. Hence, there is no risk that Copilot data will be used to train the underlying ChatGPT model.
This means that if you are an organization that has strict data policies or regulations (such as government agencies), you can use Copilot without worrying about compromising your data integrity or compliance. In fact, in our case the Dutch government has their own extensive contracts with Microsoft in place to ensure that all data processed within the tenant is both compliant with the GDPR and the Dutch information security baseline.
We have yet to find out whether Microsoft will be able to safeguard all of the information processed with Copilot within the bounds of your tenant. But if so, this will finally be our chance to integrate GPT services within our organization.
I just can’t wait to start generating extensive memo’s based on an input of 5 bullet points into Copilot, only to have my colleagues summarize my 10-pagers back to 5 bullet points using… Copilot!
